Activities for Seniors

Is not wisdom found among the aged?  Does not long life bring understanding?  "To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are His."  Job 12:12-13

As coordinator of the Senior's ministry program here at St. Paul's I spend time each week visiting some of the unseen members of our congregation.  We have at least half a dozen faithful members of St. Paul's living at the Village Retirement Centre and a few others over at Bay Ridges Long Term Care Centre.  In addition we have a few adopted members of our congregation who come to us from other parishes and once moving into the area seek a connection with the local Anglican Church.  Our unseen congregation enjoy receiving communion regularly, having a visit and learning of the many activities that are happening at their favourite church on the hill.  I also visit some of our shut-in members of the congregation.

We also have an active group of seniors at St. Paul's who call themselves the Senior Guys and Dolls.  You have probably noticed news of our events in the weekly bulletin; if not watch for the notices.  We enjoy spending time together, socializing, learning new things, worshipping together and eating, eating, eating.  One of the highlights of 2009 was our trip to Oktoberfest.  The St. Paul's seniors partnered together with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Whitby to share a bus and we all headed off to Kitchener for the day.  The Concordia Club provided a fabulous buffet lunch, entertainment, dancing and a few lessons on the cow bells.  did I mention we all learned to yodel as well.  It's not a skill we use to often.

Other popular events during the year include our January lunch at a local restaurant and our strawberry Social in June.

New Members are always welcome.
